The ALLIED MACHINE AND ENGINEERING 10244-0202 is a spade drill insert designed for high-performance drilling in metalworking applications. Manufactured from CPM-M4 powdered metal, this insert delivers the edge retention and wear resistance required when working through steel, cast iron, and non-ferrous metals. It features a 130-degree point angle suited for general-purpose drilling, a Seat Size D designation for proper holder fitment, and an uncoated finish that works well across a broad range of workpiece materials. The 0.375-inch thickness and 2-3/8-inch height provide structural rigidity under the cutting loads typical of large-diameter spade drilling operations. Licensed machinists and production drilling operators are the primary installers and users.
This insert is sized at 2-1/16 inches in diameter and is intended for use in compatible Seat Size D spade drill holders. It is suited for production and job-shop environments drilling steel, cast iron, and non-ferrous metals where uncoated CPM-M4 tooling is preferred. Typical applications include through-hole and blind-hole drilling in structural steel components, cast iron housings, and aluminum workpieces. The 130-degree point geometry reduces thrust and improves self-centering on flat or slightly angled entry surfaces, making it a practical choice for high-volume drilling programs.
Designed for use in Seat Size D spade drill holders. Compatible primary workpiece materials include steel, cast iron, and non-ferrous metals as indicated by material codes P, N, and K.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist following the holder manufacturer's torque and seating specifications. Ensure the machine spindle is fully powered down and locked out before inserting or removing the spade drill insert. Confirm the insert seats flush and evenly in the holder pocket before applying clamping torque to avoid insert rocking or premature edge failure. Follow applicable shop safety standards and machine tool operating procedures when setting up spade drill assemblies.
