The ALLIED MACHINE AND ENGINEERING 7C218P-0023CI is a solid carbide spade drill insert designed for high-performance hole-making in cast iron workpieces. It carries a 23/32-inch cutting diameter, a 140-degree point angle, and an AM300 PVD coating that extends tool life under demanding production conditions. Seat Size 18 matches this insert to compatible GEN3SYS XT spade drill bodies. The insert conforms to Manufacturer Grade C2 (K20), a tungsten carbide grade widely specified for cast iron, non-ferrous metals, and similar short-chip materials. Machinists and CNC operators in metal fabrication, job shops, and OEM production environments are the primary users.
This insert is part of the GEN3SYS XT series and is intended for use on CNC machining centers, drill presses, and turning centers equipped with a compatible Seat Size 18 spade drill holder. Its primary workpiece material designation is Cast Iron (Material Code K), making it well suited for gray iron, ductile iron, and similar K-class materials common in automotive, heavy equipment, and general machining applications. The AM300 coating provides thermal resistance and reduced built-up edge at the cutting zone.
Designed for use with GEN3SYS XT series Seat Size 18 spade drill holders from ALLIED MACHINE AND ENGINEERING. Verify seat size and series compatibility with the holder before installation.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or tooling technicians. Before indexing or replacing the insert, ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out per facility lockout/tagout procedures. Seat and clamping surfaces on the drill body should be cleaned and inspected for chips or wear before seating the new insert. Do not exceed the holder manufacturer's recommended feed and speed parameters for the specified workpiece material.
