The ALLIED MACHINE AND ENGINEERING 7C215P-0020AS is a solid carbide spade drill insert designed for high-performance hole-making operations in demanding materials. With a 5/8 inch cutting diameter and a 140-degree point angle, this insert delivers accurate entry geometry and reduced thrust in tough applications. The AM300 PVD coating provides enhanced wear resistance and thermal stability, extending tool life in abrasive and work-hardening materials. The GEN3SYS XT series design features a seat size 15 interface, ensuring a secure and repeatable seating in compatible spade drill holders. Manufactured to grade C2 (K20) carbide specification, this insert is suited for machinists and tooling specialists working in precision drilling environments.
This insert is optimized for drilling stainless steel and other M-grade workpiece materials where edge integrity and coating durability are critical. It is commonly used in CNC machining centers, lathes with live tooling, and dedicated drill presses across job shops, production facilities, and aerospace or medical component manufacturing environments. The GEN3SYS XT platform is a modular spade drilling system that allows insert changeout without removing the holder from the spindle, reducing downtime during high-volume runs.
Designed for use with GEN3SYS XT series spade drill holders accepting a seat size 15 insert. Primary workpiece material is stainless steel (material code M). Consult the Allied Machine and Engineering GEN3SYS XT holder selection guide to confirm holder compatibility before installation.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician familiar with indexable spade drill systems. Power down and lock out the spindle before inserting or removing the insert from the holder. Use the manufacturer-specified torx or hex key to secure the insert screw to the holder seat — do not over-tighten or substitute fasteners. Inspect the holder seat for chips or debris before seating the insert to ensure full contact and accurate runout.
