The ALLIED MACHINE AND ENGINEERING 180A-0021 is a spade drill insert designed for high-performance hole-making in demanding machining applications. Built from cobalt with a TiAlN (titanium aluminum nitride) PVD coating, this insert delivers extended tool life and heat resistance at elevated cutting speeds. It measures 21/32 inch in diameter, features a 132-degree point angle, and fits a Seat Size 0 holder in the T-A spade drill series. At 0.125 inches thick and weighing approximately 0.1 pounds, it is a compact, single-piece insert intended for installation by machinists and tooling technicians in production or job-shop environments.
This insert is suited for drilling into a range of primary workpiece materials including steel, stainless steel, cast iron, super-alloys, titanium, and hard materials. The T-A series is a modular spade drill platform widely used in CNC machining centers, lathes, and drill presses across general manufacturing, aerospace, and heavy-industry applications. The 132-degree point geometry is appropriate for entry into harder materials and cross-hole or interrupted-cut conditions where point stability matters.
Designed for use with T-A series Seat Size 0 spade drill holders. Compatible workpiece materials include steel (P), stainless steel (M), cast iron (K), super-alloys and titanium (S), and hard materials (H) per ISO material classification codes provided in product data.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician. Before changing inserts, ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out per applicable machine safety procedures. Seat the insert fully against the holder pocket and torque the clamping screw to the holder manufacturer's specification — do not estimate or over-tighten. Inspect the seat and insert seating surfaces for chips or debris before securing, as improper seating can cause insert movement and tool failure during cutting.
