The AIR FLOW PRODUCTS MTD1614 is a metal duct conical spin-in takeoff fitting with an integrated damper, designed for connecting branch ducts to main trunk lines in forced-air HVAC distribution systems. The conical spin-in design allows the fitting to seat securely into a pre-punched or field-cut hole in a rectangular or round trunk duct, creating a low-leakage connection. The built-in damper lets the installing technician balance airflow at the branch level without adding a separate balancing damper. This fitting is installed by sheet metal workers and HVAC service technicians during new construction and retrofit duct work.
The MTD1614 is suited for residential and light commercial forced-air systems where branch takeoffs are needed along a main supply trunk. The 16-inch trunk connection paired with the 14-inch branch opening makes this fitting appropriate for higher-volume supply runs where adequate airflow delivery to large zones or multiple diffusers is required. It is commonly used in attic, basement, and crawl space duct systems where trunk-and-branch layouts are standard.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation spin-in takeoff for standard metal trunk duct systems using conical spin-in fittings in forced-air HVAC applications.
Installation should be performed by a qualified HVAC technician or licensed sheet metal contractor. Power down the air handling unit and close the system disconnect before cutting into or modifying any duct section. Use a hole saw or duct punch sized to match the fitting collar for a proper spin-in seat, and secure the fitting with sheet metal screws and mastic sealant or UL 181-rated tape to minimize air leakage. Set the integrated damper position during system commissioning as part of the overall airflow balancing procedure.
