The ACCUPRO T2647516 is a spiral flute tap designed for cutting M12 x 1.50 metric internal threads in aluminum and similarly machinable materials. It features three fast-helix flutes at a 40-degree helix angle, which efficiently evacuates chips upward out of the hole during the tapping operation. The tap is ground from 3% Vanadium High Speed Steel (HSS) for increased wear resistance compared to standard M2 HSS. The bright, uncoated finish suits general-purpose applications where coating is not required. A D6 thread limit provides the correct tolerance for standard metric thread fits. Machinists and tool-and-die professionals typically select this tap for blind-hole and through-hole work in non-ferrous metals.
The T2647516 is suited for use in CNC machining centers, CNC lathes with rigid tapping, and manual drill presses where a spiral flute design is preferred for chip control. The modified bottoming chamfer allows the tap to cut threads closer to the bottom of a blind hole than a standard plug chamfer. It is particularly well matched to aluminum workpieces where fast chip evacuation is critical to preventing chip packing and thread damage. The right-hand flute and right-hand thread configuration is standard for conventional metric fastener applications.
Designed for cutting M12 x 1.50 metric internal threads; material application is aluminum. No coolant-through capability. Compatible with standard tap holders and collet chucks accepting a 9.32 mm shank diameter.
Installation of this tap should be performed by a qualified machinist following standard tapping procedures. Ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured and the tap is properly aligned with the drilled pilot hole before engaging the cut. Use an appropriate cutting fluid or tapping compound for aluminum to prevent galling and extend tool life. Inspect the tap for wear or chipping before each use and replace it if thread quality degrades.
