The ACCUPRO T2634265 is a spiral flute tap designed to cut 6-40 unified fine threads in blind holes and through-hole applications. The spiral flute geometry evacuates chips upward and away from the cutting zone, reducing the risk of chip packing in tight bores. Built from 3% vanadium high speed steel (HSS), it holds a sharp edge longer than standard M2 HSS in abrasive or work-hardening materials. The modified bottoming chamfer allows threading close to the bottom of a blind hole while still maintaining controlled entry. With an H5 thread limit and a 33-degree helix angle, this tap suits machinists and tool-and-die tradespeople working in ferrous metals, aluminum, and engineering plastics.
This tap is suited for manual tapping operations as well as low-speed CNC and turret-lathe applications where a spiral flute geometry is called for. The 6-40 thread size is common in instrument work, small fastener assemblies, electrical panel hardware, and precision mechanical components. The right-hand flute and right-hand thread configuration cover the vast majority of standard threaded hole requirements. Coolant-through capability is not included; flood or mist coolant applied externally at the tap is the appropriate cooling method.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or standard tooling selection for any machine or hand-tapping setup requiring a 6-40 right-hand spiral flute tap with an H5 thread limit.
This tap is installed and operated by machinists or tool-and-die technicians using a tap wrench, tapping head, or CNC spindle set to low RPM. Secure the workpiece fully before beginning the tapping cycle to prevent movement that can break the tap. Apply a suitable cutting oil or tapping fluid to lubricate the cutting edges and aid chip evacuation. Inspect the tap for wear or chipping before each use; a damaged tap in a blind hole can result in a broken tap extraction job that is costly and time-consuming.
