The ACCUPRO T1620162 is a spiral point tap designed for cutting 4-40 unified fine threads in through-hole applications. Built from 3% vanadium high-speed steel with an oxide coating, this plug-chamfer tap drives chips forward ahead of the cutting zone, reducing chip clogging during machine or hand tapping. It carries an H2 thread limit and a 2B/3B class of fit, making it suited for standard tolerance threaded fastener applications. With an overall length of 1.87 inches and a thread length of 11 mm, this tap is sized for small-diameter work. Machinists and toolroom technicians use this tap in production and maintenance environments.
The T1620162 is intended for use in stainless steel and comparable materials where a spiral point design offers improved chip evacuation over a standard hand tap. The plug chamfer provides a gradual lead-in, distributing cutting forces across several threads at the start of the cut. This configuration is most common in CNC tapping, turret lathe, and drill press operations where through-holes allow chip advancement without packing. It is also used in manual tapping setups where consistent thread form and fit are required.
Designed for cutting 4-40 unified fine threads in through-hole workpieces, with a stated material application of stainless steel. Compatible with standard 4-40 tap holders and collets sized for a 3.58 mm shank diameter.
This tap is installed by a machinist or toolroom technician using a tap holder, CNC rigid tapping chuck, or manual tap wrench appropriate for the shank diameter. Always secure the workpiece and verify spindle alignment before tapping to prevent tap breakage in small-diameter work. Apply cutting fluid rated for the workpiece material, especially when tapping stainless steel. Replace or recondition the tap if torque increases noticeably or thread form degrades.
