The ACCUPRO T1604565 is a spiral flute tap designed for cutting 1/2-13 UNC internal threads in challenging materials, particularly stainless steel. It features a 40-degree helix angle with three right-hand flutes in a fast flute style that evacuates chips upward out of the hole, reducing the risk of chip packing in blind and through holes. The tap is manufactured from 3% vanadium high-speed steel and finished with an oxide coating for added lubricity and corrosion resistance. The modified bottoming chamfer allows threading close to the bottom of a blind bore. Thread tolerance is held to H5 limit at 2B class of fit, meeting standard UNC fastener specifications.
This tap is suited for machine tapping operations in CNC machining centers, drill presses, and tapping machines where consistent thread quality is required. The spiral flute geometry makes it especially effective in stainless steel, which work-hardens readily and demands efficient chip clearance. The modified bottoming chamfer and 21 mm thread length make it a practical choice when threading depth is limited or when full thread engagement near the base of a blind hole is required. It does not support coolant-through delivery, so external cutting fluid application should be used when tapping stainless steel or other difficult alloys.
Rated for use in stainless steel applications. Designed as a machine tap compatible with standard 1/2-13 UNC tapping chucks, floating tap holders, and rigid tapping setups on CNC and manual equipment.
Installation should be performed by a machinist or tooling technician familiar with tapping operations and speeds-and-feeds selection for the workpiece material. Always use an appropriate cutting fluid or tapping compound when threading stainless steel to reduce heat buildup and work hardening. Ensure the tap is properly aligned with the drilled hole before engaging to prevent tap breakage or thread misalignment. Follow machine manufacturer guidelines for spindle speed and feed rate based on tap diameter and material grade.
