The ACCUPRO T1604523 is a spiral flute tap designed for cutting 7/16-14 unified coarse internal threads in difficult-to-machine materials. Built from 3% vanadium high speed steel (HSS) with an oxide finish, this tap delivers improved wear resistance and reduced friction during the threading operation. The modified bottoming chamfer allows threading close to the bottom of blind holes, making it well suited for tight-tolerance work. With a 40-degree helix angle and fast flute style, chips are efficiently evacuated up and out of the hole, reducing the risk of chip packing in deep or blind bores. Licensed machinists, toolroom technicians, and maintenance mechanics are the primary installers.
This tap is rated for use in stainless steel, where the vanadium HSS composition provides the toughness and edge retention needed to handle work-hardening alloys. The right-hand flute and right-hand thread configuration covers the most common threading applications in general machining, fabrication, and repair environments. The H3 thread limit designation indicates a standard tolerance class appropriate for general-purpose unified thread fits. With an overall length of 3.1563 inches and an 8.20 mm shank diameter, it is compatible with standard tap holders, floating holders, and CNC tooling chucks used in both manual and automated setups.
Rated for use in stainless steel per manufacturer material application data. Fits standard tap holders and chucks accepting an 8.20 mm shank diameter. Suitable for both manual tapping and CNC rigid or floating tap cycles.
This tap should be installed by qualified machinists or toolroom personnel familiar with threading operations and cutting tool safety. Always secure the workpiece firmly and ensure the tap is properly aligned with the pilot hole before beginning the threading cycle. Use an appropriate cutting fluid or tapping oil rated for stainless steel to extend tool life and improve thread quality. Inspect the tap for chipping or wear before each use, as a damaged tap can seize in the workpiece or produce out-of-tolerance threads.
