The ACCUPRO T1604242B is a spiral flute tap designed for cutting internal threads in through-holes and shallow blind holes where chip evacuation is critical. Built from 3% vanadium high-speed steel with an oxide coating, it delivers increased wear resistance and improved lubrication retention during tapping operations. The tap cuts a 6-32 unified coarse thread with a right-hand thread direction and a 40-degree helix angle that pulls chips up and out of the hole. Overall length is 2 inches with a thread length of 8 millimeters. Machinists and maintenance technicians install this tap by hand or in CNC and manual tapping equipment for small-fastener thread applications.
This tap is suited for production and job-shop environments where 6-32 machine screw threads are required in steel, aluminum, and similar machinable materials. The modified bottoming chamfer allows threading closer to the bottom of a blind hole than a standard plug chamfer while still providing enough lead to start the tap squarely. It is commonly used in light-duty mechanical assemblies, electrical enclosures, and panel fabrication where 6-32 fasteners are standard. The 3-flute spiral design keeps the tap stable in small-diameter holes and reduces the torque required compared to straight-flute designs.
Designed as a standard replacement or stock tap for any manual or CNC tapping setup requiring a 6-32, 2B class of fit, modified bottoming spiral flute tap with a 3.58 millimeter shank diameter.
This tap is installed by machinists and tool-and-die or maintenance technicians using a tap wrench, tapping head, or CNC rigid-tapping cycle. Always use a cutting fluid appropriate to the workpiece material to reduce heat and extend tap life. Ensure the pilot hole is drilled to the correct tap drill size for 6-32 threads before tapping. Avoid reversing the tap under power without a torque-limiting holder, as small-diameter taps are susceptible to breakage under overload conditions.
