The ACCUPRO 771222 is a CAT50 dual contact taper shank shell mill holder designed for horizontal and vertical machining centers requiring rigid, high-accuracy face milling setups. The dual contact interface engages both the taper and the spindle face simultaneously, reducing deflection and improving repeatability compared to standard single-contact tooling. The holder features a 1-inch pilot diameter, a 2.75-inch nose diameter, and an 8-inch projection from flange to nose end. Through-spindle and DIN flange coolant delivery are both supported, making this holder suitable for wet cutting applications. It is balanced to 10,000 RPM and holds a TIR of 0.0002 inches, supporting consistent surface finish in production environments.
This shell mill holder is used in CNC machining centers running CAT50 spindles, typically in aerospace, die and mold, and general metalworking shops running face mills, shoulder mills, or indexable shell mills in the 2.25-inch to 2.75-inch cutting diameter range. The 12-inch overall length and 8-inch flange-to-nose projection accommodate setups where clearance depth or fixture height requires extended reach. The lock screw thread size is 1/2-20. Installation and tool changes are performed by machinists or toolroom technicians following standard CNC tooling procedures.
Designed as a direct-fit shell mill holder for CAT50 dual contact spindle machines accepting shell mills with cutting diameters from 2.25 inches to 2.75 inches.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician. Always power down and lock out the machining center spindle before mounting or removing toolholders. Use a calibrated torque wrench and follow the machine builder's recommended drawbar pull force for CAT50 tooling. Verify TIR with a dial indicator after seating the holder to confirm proper spindle contact before running the machine.
