The ACCUPRO 72017742 is a single-end, solid carbide corner radius end mill designed for high-performance milling in demanding materials. It carries a 0.25-inch (6.35 mm) diameter with six flutes and an AlTiN+ coating that provides thermal resistance and extended tool life at elevated cutting temperatures. The 0.03-inch corner radius protects the cutting edge and reduces stress concentration at depth. Variable helix and variable index geometry reduce harmonic vibration during aggressive cuts, making this end mill well suited for finishing and semi-finishing passes where chatter control is critical. Machinists and tool-and-die professionals working on precision components specify this geometry when edge integrity and surface finish matter.
This end mill is built for cutting high-temperature alloys (material code S), including nickel-based superalloys, titanium, and cobalt-chrome. It fits standard 1/4-inch collet chucks and end mill holders found on CNC machining centers and manual knee mills. The 3/8-inch length of cut and 2-inch overall length keep the tool rigid in short-reach applications, which is a practical advantage when interpolating pockets or profiling in hard, work-hardening materials. It is centercutting, allowing plunge entry when required.
Designed for use in 1/4-inch collet chucks, shrink-fit holders, or end mill holders on CNC machining centers. Primary workpiece material is high-temperature alloy (S-category). Shank diameter matches the cutting diameter at 0.25 inches for direct holder fitment.
Installation and tool changes must be performed with the machine spindle fully stopped and the control in an e-stop or tool-change state. Ensure the holder bore and shank are clean and free of chips before seating the tool. Torque retention screws or collet nuts per the holder manufacturer guidance. Confirm runout with a dial indicator before taking the first cut, as excessive runout accelerates edge wear on multi-flute carbide tooling.
