The ACCUPRO 40085-01C is a spiral flute tap designed for cutting 1/4-20 UNC internal threads in a wide range of materials. It features a modified bottoming chamfer, allowing it to thread closer to the bottom of a blind hole than a standard plug or taper tap. Built from powdered metal and finished with a TICN (Titanium Carbonitride) coating, this tap delivers improved wear resistance and heat tolerance compared to standard HSS. The right-hand spiral flute with a 42-degree helix angle pulls chips up and out of the hole during cutting, making it well suited for blind-hole applications in steel, stainless steel, and other ferrous materials. It is sized for a 2B class of fit and carries an H5 thread limit for controlled tolerance output.
This tap is used in machining and production environments where blind-hole tapping of 1/4-20 UNC threads is required. It is appropriate for CNC machining centers, drill presses, and tapping machines where right-hand threading is performed. The modified bottoming chamfer makes it particularly useful in applications where full thread engagement close to the base of a blind hole is critical. Machinists, tool and die makers, and maintenance technicians working in job shops or production facilities are the primary users of this tool.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct substitute spiral flute tap for 1/4-20 UNC blind-hole tapping applications requiring a 2B class of fit and H5 thread limit in ferrous and similar materials.
This tap should be installed and operated by qualified machinists familiar with tapping speeds, feeds, and cutting fluid selection for the workpiece material. Always secure the workpiece and ensure the tap is properly aligned before engagement to avoid breakage. Use appropriate tapping fluid or cutting oil for the material being threaded. Follow all applicable shop safety procedures and equipment manufacturer guidelines when operating tapping equipment.
