The ACCUPRO 315227 is a single-end ball end mill designed for contour milling, profiling, and 3D surface work in metalworking and machining applications. Built from micrograin solid carbide and coated with ZrN (zirconium nitride), it delivers hardness and wear resistance suited for ferrous and non-ferrous materials. The 3-flute spiral geometry with a 37-degree helix angle promotes efficient chip evacuation and smooth cutting action. The mill measures 0.2500 inches in diameter with a 3/8-inch length of cut, a 1/4-inch shank diameter, and a 2-1/2-inch overall length. Right-hand cutting and right-hand flute direction are standard. This tool is sold as a single unit.
The 315227 is used in CNC machining centers and manual mills for finishing passes on molds, dies, and contoured workpieces. The ball nose geometry makes it well suited for 3D profiling and ramp-in cuts where a flat end mill would not track curved surfaces cleanly. The ZrN coating adds lubricity, which benefits dry machining and applications where coolant use is limited. Typical users include machinists, tool-and-die makers, and job shop operators working with steel, aluminum, and similar machinable alloys.
Designed as a standard 1/4-inch shank ball end mill compatible with CNC machining centers, knee mills, and toolholders accepting a 1/4-inch round shank, including ER collet chucks and set-screw holders.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist following shop safety protocols. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is locked out before changing tooling. Seat the shank to the recommended minimum insertion depth in the collet or toolholder and torque the retention mechanism per the toolholder manufacturer specifications. Verify runout with a dial indicator before beginning a cut, as excessive runout accelerates edge wear on carbide tooling.
