The ACCUPRO 12180554 is a solid carbide corner radius end mill designed for precision milling operations in ferrous and hardened materials. Built from micrograin carbide and coated with AlTiN (aluminum titanium nitride), it delivers heat resistance and extended tool life in demanding cutting environments. The 0.02 inch corner radius reduces stress concentration at the cutting edge, helping to prevent chipping during heavy passes. With 4 flutes and a right-hand spiral flute configuration, it produces a clean finish while evacuating chips efficiently. This is a single-end, centercutting tool suitable for plunging, slotting, and profiling in CNC machining centers and manual mills.
The 12180554 is suited for use in job shops, tool rooms, and production machining environments. It handles steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and high-temperature alloys where an AlTiN coating provides the thermal protection needed at elevated cutting speeds. The 1/4 inch shank fits standard collet and end mill holders common to both vertical machining centers and smaller benchtop CNC platforms. Its compact 3/4 inch length of cut makes it well-suited for shallow-to-mid-depth pocketing and contour work where rigidity is a priority.
Designed as a standard 1/4 inch shank corner radius end mill compatible with ER collet chucks, set-screw end mill holders, and shrink-fit tooling systems that accept 1/4 inch round shank tooling.
Installation should be performed by a machinist or CNC setup technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the tool holder is clean and free of chips before seating the tool. Tighten collet nuts or set screws to the tool holder manufacturer's specified torque using calibrated tooling. Confirm runout with a dial indicator before committing to a production setup, as excessive runout accelerates wear on carbide tooling.
