The ACCUPRO 12178714 is a 7-flute corner radius end mill ground from micrograin solid carbide and coated with AlTiN for extended tool life in demanding cutting applications. It carries a 0.25 inch mill diameter, a 0.03 inch corner radius, and a 0.75 inch length of cut. The AlTiN coating provides thermal resistance at elevated cutting temperatures, making this end mill well suited for dry or near-dry machining of hardened steels, stainless alloys, and cast iron. The single-end, centercutting design allows plunge entry as well as conventional peripheral milling. This tool is sized and configured for use by machinists, tool-and-die makers, and CNC programmers working in job shop or production environments.
The 12178714 is applied in milling operations where a controlled corner radius is required to reduce stress concentrations in pocketed features or profiled contours. The 0.03 inch radius breaks the sharp corner without adding significant fillet geometry, which suits finish passes on die cavities, mold pockets, and precision machined components. A 0.25 inch shank diameter fits standard ER or set-screw tool holders common in vertical machining centers and CNC mills. The 37-degree right-hand helical flute geometry promotes chip evacuation and smooth cutting action during finishing and semi-finishing passes.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-use cutting tool for 0.25 inch shank tool holders including ER16, ER20, and set-screw side-lock holders commonly used in vertical and horizontal CNC machining centers.
Installation is performed by a machinist or CNC setup technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the tool holder is clean and free of chips or debris before inserting the shank. Verify runout with a dial indicator after clamping to avoid premature edge wear. Follow the tool manufacturer and machine builder guidelines for appropriate feed rate, surface speed, and depth of cut for the workpiece material and coating type.
