The ABBOTT WORKHOLDING PRODUCTS TG6MDP is a soft lathe chuck jaw designed with a tongue and groove interface for secure, repeatable workholding on manual and CNC lathes. Machined from 6061 aluminum, these jaws offer a lightweight yet rigid platform that can be bored to custom diameters in the shop. The set consists of 3 jaws, each measuring 6 inches overall width and 2 inches overall height. The tongue and groove connection provides positive location and resistance to radial shifting during cutting operations. Machinists and tool room technicians install these as standard OEM-style replacements or new setups on compatible 6-inch chucks.
These jaws are suited for light to medium turning operations in job shops, production facilities, and maintenance machine rooms. The aluminum construction reduces centrifugal force at higher spindle speeds compared to steel soft jaws, making them a common choice for finishing passes and second-operation work. The tongue width of 0.5 inches and groove width of 0.313 inches are matched to standard tongue and groove chuck bodies. Mount hole centers are spaced 1.5 inches apart, and the fastener size is 0.375 inches, consistent with common chuck jaw hardware.
Designed for use with 6-inch lathe chucks using a tongue and groove jaw interface. Compatible chuck diameter is 6 inches. Confirm jaw interface type, tongue width, groove width, and mount hole spacing against the chuck manufacturer specifications before installation.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or toolroom technicians. Power down and lock out the lathe spindle drive before removing or installing chuck jaws. Torque jaw fasteners evenly and in sequence according to the chuck manufacturer guidelines. Soft jaws must be bored to the required workpiece diameter while mounted on the chuck under normal clamping load to ensure concentricity.
