The ABBOTT WORKHOLDING PRODUCTS TG12MDA1 is a soft lathe chuck jaw with a tongue and groove interface, machined from 6061-T6 aluminum. It measures 5.5 inches overall length, 3 inches overall height, and 2 inches overall width. The tongue and groove design allows machinists and toolroom operators to accurately locate and re-locate jaws on compatible chucks without loss of position. Soft jaws in this configuration are intended to be bored or turned in place to match the workpiece, enabling precise, repeatable gripping on turned parts, castings, and finished surfaces where standard hard jaws would cause damage or hold poorly.
This jaw set is designed for use in turning centers and engine lathes equipped with 12-inch three-jaw chucks using a tongue and groove jaw interface. Typical applications include production turning, tool room work, and custom workholding setups where the jaw must be machined to grip an irregular or close-tolerance workpiece. The 6061-T6 aluminum construction keeps rotating mass low, which is an advantage on chucks used at higher spindle speeds. A set of three jaws is the standard configuration for this product.
Designed as an OEM-style soft jaw replacement for 12-inch three-jaw lathe chucks using a tongue and groove jaw interface.
Soft jaw installation and boring should be performed by a qualified machinist familiar with lathe workholding practices. Before removing or installing chuck jaws, power down the lathe and confirm the spindle is fully stopped. Fasten jaws securely using the appropriate fastener size before boring; do not exceed the chuck manufacturer's recommended torque for jaw bolts. After boring, verify jaw runout with a dial indicator before beginning production work.
