The ABBOTT WORKHOLDING PRODUCTS KTT8S1 is a serrated soft lathe chuck jaw designed for precision workholding on manual and CNC lathes. Sold as a set of three jaws, these square-profile soft jaws are machined from 1018 steel, a low-carbon grade that machines cleanly and holds a rebored profile reliably. The serrated jaw interface locks into the chuck body with positive engagement, reducing the risk of slippage under cutting loads. Key dimensions include an overall length of 4 inches, an overall height of 3 inches, and an overall width of 1.5 inches, giving machinists a substantial gripping surface for a wide range of workpiece diameters.
This jaw set is suited for use on 3-jaw lathe chucks rated up to 8 inches in diameter. Typical applications include production turning, toolroom work, and job-shop operations where soft jaws need to be bored or milled to a specific workpiece profile. The 1018 steel construction allows the jaws to be re-machined multiple times before replacement, making them a practical choice for short-run and custom fixturing. Compatible with chucks using a 0.5510-inch slot width and 0.9843-inch mount hole center spacing.
Designed for use with 3-jaw lathe chucks up to 8 inches in diameter that feature a serrated jaw interface, a 0.5510-inch slot width, a 0.9843-inch distance between mount hole centers, and a 0.4724-inch fastener size.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician with the lathe fully powered down and locked out per OSHA lockout/tagout procedures. Verify that the jaw serrations and chuck body serrations are fully seated before torquing mounting fasteners. After boring soft jaws to a workpiece profile, confirm runout with a dial indicator before beginning production cuts. Do not exceed the maximum chuck diameter or spindle speed rating of the host chuck.
