The ABBOTT WORKHOLDING PRODUCTS AL362 is a soft lathe chuck jaw designed for precision workholding on CNC and manual lathes. Machined from 2024-grade aluminum, this round jaw uses a tongue and groove interface to mount on Northfield-style chucks up to 6 inches in diameter. The jaw set consists of 3 jaws with an overall diameter of 5.92 inches and an overall height of 2 inches. Soft jaws allow machinists to bore a custom grip profile to match a specific workpiece, reducing part movement and improving repeatability across a production run.
The AL362 is suited for machine shops running turning operations on CNC lathes or manual engine lathes where a custom-bored soft jaw is required. It handles both internal and external chucking applications, with a chucking diameter range of 0.75 inches to 5.75 inches for both modes. The aluminum construction keeps rotational mass low, making it appropriate for higher-speed turning applications where chuck balance matters. Typical users include CNC machinists, toolroom operators, and production turning specialists.
Designed for use with Northfield-style lathe chucks up to 6 inches maximum compatible chuck diameter. Tongue and groove jaw interface required on the host chuck.
Installation and boring of soft jaws should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician. Power down and lock out the lathe before seating or removing jaws from the chuck body. When boring soft jaws in place, use a light pre-load on the jaws against a bore ring or disk to eliminate jaw-seating error before taking the final bore pass. Follow the machine tool manufacturer guidelines and applicable shop safety procedures during setup.
