The A.O. SMITH 100108279 is a temperature and pressure (T and P) relief valve designed as a direct replacement component for residential water heater installations. Commonly referenced under model designation TP-100, this valve provides the critical safety function of releasing excess pressure or dangerously high temperatures from the water heater tank. It features a 0.625-inch shank length for proper fitment. Installation is handled by licensed plumbers during new installations, warranty service calls, or routine safety-component replacements on residential water heating systems.
This T and P relief valve is rated for residential applications and fits most standard gas and electric water heater models. It is not compatible with direct vent water heater configurations. The 0.625-inch shank makes it suitable for tank openings sized to that specification. Replacement of a T and P relief valve is a common service task performed when valves show signs of weeping, corrosion, sediment buildup, or failure to reseat after a pressure event.
Fits most A.O. SMITH residential gas and electric water heater models with a 0.625-inch T and P valve port. Not compatible with direct vent models. Verify shank size and pressure-temperature rating against the existing valve and the water heater data plate before installation.
T and P relief valve replacement should be performed by a licensed plumber in accordance with local plumbing codes and the International Plumbing Code (IPC). Shut off the water supply and disconnect power or gas to the water heater before beginning service. Never plug or cap a T and P valve port or install a valve with a lower BTU/h or pressure rating than specified on the water heater data plate. After installation, verify the discharge line is routed to a safe drain location and the valve seats properly with no leaks under normal operating pressure.
