The 3M IT2.000BK48IN-S is a heavy-wall, heat shrink cable sleeve designed for insulating, protecting, and repairing medium-voltage cable splices and sheaths. Made from cross-linked polyolefin with a 3:1 shrink ratio, it collapses from a minimum expanded diameter of 2 inches down to a maximum recovered diameter of 0.65 inches, making it suitable for cable sizes ranging from 250 to 750 KCMIL. The sleeve is rated for 600 volts and carries UL 486-D and CSA approvals. At 48 inches in length, it provides substantial coverage per piece and is installed by licensed electricians working on primary or secondary cable systems.
This sleeve is engineered for indoor, outdoor, and overhead applications. Common uses include insulating secondary splices, relocating service runs, repairing dig-in damage, and restoring cable sheath integrity. The 48-inch length covers a wide repair zone in a single piece. The black, UV-resistant jacket holds up in direct-sun overhead runs and buried-to-aerial transitions. Each case contains 5 pieces. The material bonds to a wide variety of substrates and resists acids, alkalies, puncture, and abrasion, making it a practical choice for utility, commercial, and industrial electrical work.

Installation is performed by qualified electricians following applicable NEC requirements. De-energize and verify the absence of voltage on all conductors before applying the sleeve. Apply heat evenly using an appropriate heat gun or torch, working from the center outward to prevent air entrapment under the recovered wall. Do not exceed the shrink temperature rating or use an open flame that concentrates heat on a single point.
