The 3M 7100309906 is a closed-coat fiber disc built on the Cubitron 3 1187C platform, designed for heavy material removal on metal. It uses Re-Engineered Precision Shaped Grain, a proprietary abrasive technology that features sharp, angular structures. These structures continuously fracture to expose fresh cutting points, allowing the disc to run cooler, wear evenly, and maintain aggressive cut rates across its full service life. The result is faster stock removal with less operator pressure compared to conventional abrasive discs. A stiff fiber backing and strong resin bond deliver the durability needed for sustained grinding operations.
This disc is suited for medium to high-pressure grinding, weld removal, and beveling on mild and carbon steels. It is engineered to perform in both manual and robotic grinding operations. The closed-coat construction and 36 plus grit rating make it appropriate for aggressive initial cuts where surface finish is secondary to material removal rate. Fabricators, welders, and metal finishing professionals are the primary users. The design reduces metal discoloration and lowers the risk of stress cracks on mild or carbon steels, which matters in precision fabrication environments.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and upgrade path from the Cubitron II Fibre Disc 982C 36 plus grit. Suitable for use on angle grinders and disc grinders fitted with a 7 inch disc backing pad or flap disc arbor appropriate for fiber discs.
Fiber discs of this type are mounted and changed by metalworking professionals and fabricators using standard angle grinder tooling. Always power down and disconnect the grinder before mounting or removing a disc. Inspect the backing pad for damage before installation, and confirm the grinder RPM rating meets or exceeds the disc RPM rating. Wear appropriate PPE including face shield and gloves during operation and disc changes.
