The 3M 7100284215 is a pressure-sensitive adhesive (PSA) abrasive disc designed for powered random orbital and disc sanders used in metalworking, woodworking, and surface preparation applications. The disc measures 5 inches in diameter and uses 60-grit ceramic abrasive on a J-weight cloth backing. The ceramic abrasive grain is self-sharpening, maintaining cut rate as the disc wears. At a maximum rated speed of 12,000 RPM, this disc handles aggressive stock removal while leaving a smooth finish on a wide range of substrates. It is part of the 3M 900DZ series and weighs 0.02 pounds.
This disc is suited for residential and commercial shop environments as well as field fabrication work. The PSA mount makes disc changes fast on compatible 5-inch backup pads. Compatible material applications include aluminum, carbon steel, mild steel, composite, fiberglass, gelcoat, hardwood, softwood, plastic, solid surface, paint, primer, and topcoat. Typical users include metal fabricators, auto body technicians, woodworkers, and general contractors performing surface prep or finishing work. The 60-grit medium grade is well matched to stock removal, weld blending, and shaping passes before moving to finer grits.
Designed for use on aluminum, carbon steel, mild steel, composite, fiberglass, gelcoat, hardwood, softwood, plastic, solid surface, paint, primer, and topcoat. Fits standard 5-inch PSA backup pads rated for disc sander use.
Mount only on a backup pad rated for 5-inch PSA discs and ensure the pad and spindle assembly are rated at or above 12,000 RPM before use. Power down and disconnect the sander from its power source before mounting or removing the disc. Press the disc firmly and evenly onto the backup pad to ensure full adhesive contact before starting the tool. Worn or contaminated backup pads reduce adhesion and can cause disc separation — inspect the pad surface before each disc change.
