The 3M 7100186423 is a contractor-grade general-purpose masking tape built for demanding job-site conditions. The tan crepe-paper tape bonds aggressively to a range of non-damageable surfaces, including vinyl, carpet, metal, and plastic, while still offering a smooth, controlled unwind. Each roll measures 48 MM wide and 55 M long. The pressure-sensitive adhesive performs reliably in humid conditions and is rated for clean removal within 3 days of application, leaving no sticky residue or surface damage behind. Each pack contains 3 rolls. Installers and contractors reach for this tape when they need dependable masking performance without the risk of tearing or residue on finished surfaces.
This tape is suited for general masking tasks in residential and light commercial settings. Typical applications include protecting trim, fixtures, carpet edges, and metal surfaces during painting or surface prep work. The 3-day clean-removal rating makes it appropriate for multi-stage jobs where tape may sit overnight before the next coat or inspection. Trades that commonly use this product include painters, general contractors, flooring installers, and HVAC or plumbing crews doing surface protection during rough-in or finishing work.
Designed for general-purpose masking on non-damageable surfaces including vinyl, carpet, metal, and plastic. Not recommended for use on freshly painted, delicate, or easily marred surfaces.
Surface must be clean, dry, and dust-free before applying tape to ensure proper adhesion. Press the tape firmly along its full length as it is applied. Allow the tape to set for approximately 30 to 60 minutes before painting. When removing, wait until paint is dry to the touch, then lift the edge and pull the tape back on itself at a 45-degree angle to minimize the risk of tearing or paint pull-back.
