The 3M 7100185062 is a 7-inch coated fibre disc built around 3M Precision Shaped Grain ceramic abrasive. This engineered grain geometry delivers faster cut rates and cooler grinding temperatures compared to conventional fibre discs, making it well suited for weld removal, blending, and finish refinement on demanding materials. A grinding aid is incorporated into the construction to reduce heat buildup at the work surface. The stiff fibre backing and strong resin bond give the disc the structural integrity needed for sustained aggressive stock removal without premature tearing or glazing. Rated at 80 grit, it targets aggressive material removal while leaving a consistent surface finish.
This disc is designed for metalworking professionals working with hard-to-grind metals, particularly stainless steel and high nickel alloys. Typical applications include weld grinding, beveling, edge chamfering, and surface blending in fabrication shops, pipe work, and structural steel environments. It performs well in both angle grinder and disc sander setups when paired with the appropriate disc pad face plate or hub. The 80 grit cut rate makes it effective at heavyweight stock removal tasks where conventional aluminium oxide or zirconia discs lose performance quickly.
Compatible with 3M disc pad face plates and hubs sold separately. Designed for use on stainless steel and high nickel alloys in weld grinding and surface blending applications.
Installation of fibre discs should be performed by trained grinding equipment operators following tool manufacturer guidelines and applicable ANSI B11 or OSHA 1910.215 standards for abrasive wheel machinery. Always power down and disconnect the grinder before mounting or removing a disc. Confirm that the disc's rated speed meets or exceeds the grinder's maximum RPM before use, and inspect the disc for damage or delamination prior to each use. Use only compatible backing pads and hubs designed for the disc diameter.
