The 3M 7100146018 is a double-sided, pressure-sensitive, closed-cell acrylic foam tape sold under the VHB Tape 4947F designation. At 45 mil thick, it delivers a conformable, high-strength bond across a wide range of high and medium surface energy substrates. The tape features a PE film liner for handling convenience and is formulated to resist plasticizer migration over time. Each roll measures 0.75 inches wide by 36 yards long and weighs 1.67 pounds. It carries UL listing 746C, making it suitable for applications where flame and electrical ratings matter to inspectors and project specifications. Installers in electrical, HVAC panel, and light industrial assembly work rely on this tape for bonding, cushioning, damping, and impact resistance without mechanical fasteners.
This tape is suited for bonding dissimilar materials in both light commercial and industrial settings. Common applications include securing nameplates, trim, gaskets, and brackets to painted metal, powder-coated surfaces, glass, and rigid plastics. The closed-cell foam core absorbs vibration and thermal expansion movement, making it a practical choice in HVAC panel assembly, electrical enclosure sealing, and mechanical component mounting where rigid fasteners would crack or loosen over time. The 36-yard roll length reduces mid-job roll changes on larger production or field runs.
Designed for bonding high and medium surface energy substrates including painted metal, powder-coated surfaces, glass, and rigid plastics in light commercial and industrial assembly applications.
Surface preparation is critical for maximum bond strength — clean bonding surfaces thoroughly to remove oil, dust, and moisture before application. Apply firm, even pressure across the full tape width after positioning to ensure full adhesive contact. Minimum recommended application temperature should be confirmed against the product data sheet before use in cold-weather field conditions. Once fully bonded, VHB-style tapes are not intended to be repositioned or removed without risk of substrate damage.
