The 3M 7100116475 is an aluminum oxide cloth-backed abrasive belt designed for general-purpose metalworking, metal deburring, and light woodworking tasks. Running on an XF-weight polyester cloth backing, this belt handles both wet and dry operating conditions without delaminating. The resin bond system resists high heat and pressure, keeping the abrasive mineral active through aggressive grinding passes. At 120 grit, it sits in the medium-finishing range, suitable for stock removal on mild steel, carbon steel, aluminum, bronze, and brass. Licensed HVAC, plumbing, and mechanical contractors commonly keep belts in this grit range on the bench for pipe prep, bracket fabrication, and general metal cleanup.
This belt measures 24 inches in length and 1/2 inch in width, fitting backstand and benchtop belt sanders configured for that size. It is also rated for stroke sanding, portable belt grinding, and wide belt grinding and finishing operations. The aluminum oxide mineral delivers consistent cut across a broad range of substrate hardness levels, making it a reliable choice in shops that run mixed materials throughout the day. Trade professionals in HVAC fab, plumbing, and light industrial maintenance will find this belt effective for edge cleanup and surface prep prior to welding, brazing, or fitting.
Designed for use on backstand and benchtop belt sanders, stroke sanders, portable belt grinders, and wide belt grinding and finishing machines configured for a 24-inch by 1/2-inch belt size.
Belt installation and replacement should be performed by a qualified operator with the machine powered down and unplugged or locked out per applicable OSHA lockout/tagout procedures. Verify belt tracking and tension according to the sander or grinder manufacturer specifications before resuming operation. Inspect the belt for tears, fraying, or delamination before each use and replace immediately if damage is found. Eye protection and gloves are standard PPE for abrasive belt operations.
