The 3M 7100104914 is a Type 29 right-angle flap disc built around 3M Precision-Shaped Grain on a durable polyester backing. At 7 inches in diameter and 80 grit, this disc is engineered for medium- to high-pressure grinding tasks including beveling, weld removal, and edge deburring on ferrous and non-ferrous metals. The triangular ceramic grain cuts aggressively and fractures in a controlled way as it wears, continuously exposing fresh cutting edges. The result is a consistent cut rate from the first pass to the end of the disc life. Metal fabricators, welders, and pipefitters reach for this disc when throughput and surface finish both matter on the same job.
This flap disc is suited for production grinding in metal fabrication shops, structural steel work, pipeline welding, and general sheet metal finishing. The 80-grit designation makes it appropriate for stock removal and blending in a single step, reducing the need to switch to a separate finishing disc. Its right-angle geometry fits standard 7-inch angle grinder spindles. Applications where a smooth, consistent finish is required alongside fast material removal are where this disc performs best. It carries a lower risk of gouging or loading compared to bonded abrasive wheels and fiber discs at equivalent grits.
Designed for use with standard 7-inch right-angle grinders. Verify spindle thread size and maximum RPM rating against the disc before mounting.
Mounting and operation should be performed by qualified personnel following ANSI B7.1 and applicable shop safety standards. Always inspect the disc for damage before mounting and never exceed the maximum rated RPM marked on the disc. Power down and disconnect the grinder from its power source before changing discs. Use the correct flange and nut for the grinder spindle to ensure secure seating.
