The 3M 7100080070 is a 30-mil-thick, flame-retardant electric arc proofing tape designed to protect electrical cables from arc-fault energy released during adjacent cable failures. Constructed from an intumescent elastomer, the tape expands under extreme heat to form a protective barrier. At 600 volts rated, it is engineered for use on power distribution and feeder cable systems where arc-fault exposure is a documented risk. The non-adhesive, unsupported elastomer construction allows field technicians to apply and remove the tape without leaving residue, making periodic cable inspection straightforward.
This tape is used in commercial and industrial electrical installations where cable runs are bundled or routed in conduit, cable trays, or raceways and where a fault in one cable could expose adjacent cables to arc energy. It is well suited for use by licensed electricians performing cable protection work on low-voltage and medium-voltage distribution systems. The flexible construction conforms to irregular cable geometries and terminations, including splices and elbows.
Designed as a protective wrap for most types of electrical cables in installations where exposure to arc energy from an adjacent cable failure is a concern. Suitable for use on low-voltage cable systems rated up to 600 volts.
Installation should be performed by a licensed electrician in accordance with applicable NEC requirements and local codes. De-energize and lock out the circuit before applying or removing tape from any cable. Wrap the tape snugly around the cable surface, overlapping each pass as needed to achieve full coverage. Do not stretch the tape excessively during application, as uniform thickness is necessary for consistent arc protection performance.
