The 3M 7100039230 is a red, low-viscosity anaerobic threadlocker formulated for high-torque applications where permanent fastener retention is required. Sold under the Scotch-Weld TL71 designation, this 250 mL bottle delivers a penetrating liquid consistency that wicks into pre-assembled fasteners and cures to lock threads against loosening caused by vibration, shock, and corrosion. The cured adhesive also seals the thread interface, preventing moisture ingress that leads to rust and galvanic corrosion on metal fasteners. Disassembly requires localized heat application to break the bond. Mechanical, HVAC, and industrial maintenance technicians use TL71 where maximum holding strength is needed on critical bolted joints.
TL71 is suited for residential and commercial mechanical installations, industrial equipment assembly, and field service work where fasteners are subject to continuous vibration or thermal cycling. The low viscosity allows capillary action to draw the adhesive into tight thread clearances without full disassembly of the joint. It is appropriate for use on steel and metal fasteners in equipment such as compressors, pumps, motors, and structural brackets where permanent or semi-permanent locking is specified.
Designed as an OEM-style threadlocking compound for use on metal threaded fasteners in mechanical, HVAC, and industrial maintenance applications requiring high-torque removal resistance.
Application should be performed by a qualified mechanic or maintenance technician familiar with anaerobic adhesive systems. Clean and degrease threads before applying to ensure full cure and maximum holding strength. Do not apply to live or energized components. When disassembly is required, apply localized heat to the fastener before attempting removal to avoid fastener or component damage.
