The 3M 7100037112 is a gray, double-sided, pressure-sensitive acrylic foam tape in the VHB 4646 series. At 25 mil thick, it features a closed-cell acrylic foam core with a PE film liner and bonds to high and medium surface energy substrates. The tape measures 0.5 inches wide by 36 yards long and is sold as an individual roll. It is used by contractors, fabricators, and maintenance technicians who need a structural-grade adhesive solution without mechanical fasteners. The foam construction provides cushioning, vibration damping, and impact resistance alongside strong adhesion.
VHB 4646 tape is suited for bonding applications in construction, signage, metal fabrication, and general industrial assembly. It performs on substrates including painted steel, aluminum, and other high to medium surface energy materials. The tape is plasticizer resistant, making it appropriate for use alongside PVC and other plasticizer-containing materials. It carries a UL listing under UL 746C, supporting use in applications where component flame or material ratings are required.
Designed for bonding to high and medium surface energy substrates including metals, glass, and many rigid plastics. Not intended for low surface energy substrates such as untreated polyethylene or polypropylene without surface preparation.
Surface preparation is critical before applying VHB tape. Clean all bonding surfaces free of oils, dust, and loose material using an appropriate solvent cleaner. Apply firm, even pressure across the tape after positioning to ensure full contact adhesion. Allow adequate dwell time before subjecting the bond to full load per standard adhesive bonding practice.
