The 3M 7100020236 is a ceramic abrasive belt engineered for aggressive stock removal on metal, wood, and composite surfaces. Part of the 984F Series, it measures 3/4 inches wide by 18 inches long and runs a 36 grit, Very Coarse grade — suited for rapid material removal, weld blending, and surface conditioning in both wet and dry operating conditions. The ceramic abrasive grain self-sharpens under pressure, sustaining cut rate over the belt's service life. A closed-coat configuration covers the backing face for maximum grain density and faster cutting. The YF-weight polyester cloth backing resists tearing under tension and conforms to contoured workpieces. Fabricators, pipefitters, and metal finishing technicians are the primary users of this belt.
This belt is designed for use on portable belt sanders and stationary abrasive machines that accept 3/4 inch by 18 inch belts. Typical applications include deburring, weld seam removal, edge breaking, and surface prep prior to coating or inspection. The 36 grit designation makes it appropriate for initial-pass work where material removal rate takes priority over final surface finish. Wet or dry operation is supported, giving shops flexibility when coolant is used to manage heat on heat-sensitive alloys or thin stock.
Designed for use on portable and bench-mounted belt sanders and grinders that accept 3/4 inch by 18 inch abrasive belts. Suitable for metalworking, fabrication, and woodworking applications requiring a Very Coarse ceramic belt.
Install with the arrow on the belt backing aligned in the direction of machine travel to ensure proper splice integrity. Confirm the machine is fully powered off and unplugged before changing belts. Inspect the idler and drive wheels for wear or debris before mounting a new belt. Eye protection and appropriate respiratory PPE should be worn during abrasive operations per applicable shop safety standards.
