The 3M 7100010774 is a cold shrink insulator designed for secondary cable splices rated up to 1 kV. It is supplied prestretched on a removable core, allowing the installer to position the tube and then unwind the core so the material shrinks into place without heat tools. The result is a moisture-tight environmental seal maintained by the live memory action of the specially formulated elastomeric material. This insulator meets ANSI C119-1 and Western Underground Guide 2.14 requirements for secondary splices. Electricians and underground utility technicians install this product on Unishield, tape, and wire-type cable splices in low-voltage secondary distribution applications.
This cold shrink insulator is suited for secondary underground and direct-burial splice applications operating at up to 1 kV. It is commonly installed on residential and commercial service conductors where a reliable, long-term environmental seal is required. The prestretched core delivery system reduces installation time compared to traditional heat-shrink methods, making it well-suited for field crews working in confined or congested splice enclosures.
Designed for use with Unishield, tape, and wire secondary cable splices rated up to 1 kV, meeting ANSI C119-1 and Western Underground Guide 2.14 requirements for secondary splice applications.
Installation is performed by licensed electricians or qualified utility technicians. De-energize and verify the circuit is isolated before working on any splice. Position the cold shrink tube over the prepared splice, then remove the inner core by unwinding it in the direction indicated, allowing the tube to contract onto the cable without the use of a heat source. Follow applicable NEC and local utility specifications for underground secondary splice preparation and enclosure.
