The 3M 7010328900 is a non-woven, hook-and-loop abrasive disc designed for coating removal from metal surfaces, welds, and fabricated assemblies. It uses extra coarse silicon carbide mineral bonded into an open, conformable web that cuts aggressively without gouging or undercutting the base material. Rated to 13,000 RPM, the disc mounts quickly to hook-and-loop backup pads, making it a practical choice for multi-step surface prep workflows. Metal fabricators, welders, and industrial finishing technicians use this disc to strip paint, rust, and welding scale while preserving part geometry.
This disc is suited for surface preparation on flat and contoured metal workpieces in fabrication shops, maintenance facilities, and industrial environments. Common applications include stripping paint and primer from steel, removing rust and mill scale, cleaning weld seams and discoloration, and prepping surfaces ahead of recoating or inspection. The 4-inch diameter and hook-and-loop backing allow for rapid swaps between grit grades during multi-step finishing sequences.
Designed for use with 4-inch hook-and-loop backup pads on angle grinders and disc sanders capable of accommodating the 13,000 RPM speed rating.
Installation of this disc is performed by metalworking and industrial finishing technicians. Confirm the backup pad and tool are rated at or above 13,000 RPM before mounting the disc. Power down and disconnect the tool before attaching or removing the disc. Wear appropriate PPE including eye protection and gloves during operation, and inspect the disc for damage before each use.
