The 3M 7010308129 is a pressure-sensitive adhesive (PSA) abrasive roll built on a durable X-weight cloth backing. Aluminum oxide abrasive grain is resin bonded to the backing, providing solid heat resistance during extended grinding and stock-removal operations. At 40 grit, this roll is suited for aggressive material removal on metal, wood, and composite surfaces. Measuring 2 inches wide and 50 yards long, it yields a large supply of abrasive material that can be cut to length for use on file boards, stroke sanders, or hand-wrapping applications. HVAC, mechanical, and fabrication trades keep rolls like this on hand for deburring, weld blending, and surface prep work.
This abrasive roll is appropriate for both shop and field use wherever a consistent, aggressive cut is needed on a flat or contoured surface. The PSA backing allows the cut pieces to adhere directly to foam pads or rigid backup plates without separate fasteners. Common applications include ductwork fabrication, pipe fitting prep, structural steel finishing, and general metalworking where surface condition must meet inspection or coating requirements before assembly.
Designed for use with PSA-compatible file boards, stroke sanders, and backup pads that accept 2-inch wide abrasive rolls. Verify that the backup surface accepts PSA-style abrasives before use.
A licensed or trained trades professional should select the appropriate grit and backing type for the specific substrate before cutting and applying. Ensure the backup pad or board surface is clean and dry before pressing the PSA backing into place for full adhesion. When using on power equipment, confirm the tool RPM rating is compatible with the abrasive roll format. Follow shop safety practices including eye and respiratory protection during grinding and surface preparation work.
