The 3M 7000145509 is a two-part, low-viscosity polyurethane encapsulant engineered for permanent splice protection in electrical systems. Sold as Scotchcast Electrical Insulating Resin 2104B, this hard, non-re-enterable resin is formulated to protect cable splices operating at 1000 volts or less. It is rated for continuous use at 90 degrees F... correction: 90 degrees C with an overload rating of 130 degrees C. Gel time is 18 minutes at 23 degrees C, giving installers a reliable working window during pour and cure. Licensed electricians and electrical contractors install this product during underground, direct-burial, or in-conduit splice work requiring long-term moisture and mechanical protection.
The 2104B resin is suited to virtually every electrical application where a hard, permanent encapsulant is required. Its low viscosity allows it to flow thoroughly around conductors and splice components before curing to a rigid state. Because the formulation covers the full range of hard resin encapsulation needs, it can serve as a single-stock solution across multiple splice types, eliminating the need to maintain separate encapsulant inventories on the service vehicle or in the shop.
Designed for permanent encapsulation of cable splices operating at 1000 volts or less across a wide range of hard-resin electrical splicing applications.
Installation should be performed by a licensed electrician following applicable NEC requirements and local codes. De-energize and lock out the circuit before preparing the splice. Mix both parts of the compound thoroughly per the manufacturer's mixing ratio and pour promptly to take full advantage of the 18-minute gel time. Allow the resin to cure completely before re-energizing the circuit or enclosing the splice.
