The 3M 7000138436 is a wraparound heat shrink cable repair sleeve designed to restore and protect damaged cable sheaths in demanding electrical installations. The sleeve wraps around the cable without requiring access to a free cable end, making it practical for in-place repairs. The inner wall is coated with a hot-melt adhesive that activates under heat, forming a watertight, corrosion-resistant bond with the cable jacket. A corrosion-proof metal clip holds the sleeve closed during and after installation. At 47.2 inches in length, this sleeve covers extended repair zones on medium- and high-voltage cable runs.
This sleeve is suited for licensed electricians and cable jointers working on power distribution, telecommunications, and industrial wiring systems. Primary applications include repairing mechanically damaged cable sheaths, sealing cable joints, and adding supplemental corrosion protection to undamaged cable sections. It is appropriate for both direct-buried and above-grade cable installations where exposure to moisture, soil chemicals, or mechanical stress is a concern.
Designed as an OEM-style wraparound repair solution for power, telecommunications, and industrial cable sheaths requiring in-place sleeve repair or joint protection.
Installation should be performed by a qualified electrician or cable jointing technician following applicable NEC or local electrical code requirements. De-energize and lock out the circuit before beginning any cable repair work. Use a calibrated heat gun or propane torch to apply even, consistent heat across the sleeve surface, working from the center toward each end to activate the adhesive and shrink the sleeve uniformly. Do not overheat any single area, as uneven shrinkage can compromise the adhesive seal.
