The 3M 7000132741 is a linerless electrical rubber tape designed for insulating and protecting electrical splices, terminations, and connections. Sold under the 3M 2242 product line, this self-fusing rubber tape bonds to itself without an adhesive liner, conforming tightly around irregular shapes and cable geometries. It is well suited for low- to medium-voltage electrical work where a moisture-resistant, conformable insulating layer is needed. Electricians reach for this tape when building up insulation on splices or when sealing cable ends in conduit and junction box applications. Each roll measures 1.5 inches wide by 15 feet long.
This tape is used in residential, commercial, and light industrial electrical installations. It performs well in environments where moisture, abrasion, or mechanical stress can degrade standard vinyl tape. Typical applications include splicing insulation buildup, cable jacketing repairs, and protective wrapping on cable terminations. It is sold individually, with a minimum order quantity of 12 units per case, making it practical for stocking in service vehicles or supply rooms.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and general-use linerless rubber electrical tape for low- to medium-voltage splice insulation and cable protection applications.
Installation is performed by licensed electricians in accordance with NEC requirements for insulation class and voltage rating. De-energize and lock out the circuit before applying tape to any splice or termination. Apply the tape with a half-lapped wrap pattern to build uniform insulation thickness, stretching slightly to activate self-fusion. Do not use as the sole insulation layer on applications that exceed the tape material voltage rating.
