The 3M 7000132417 is a medium-wall, heat-shrinkable cable sleeve in the MDT series, designed to protect electrical cables and splices against mechanical damage, corrosion, moisture, and chemical exposure. Constructed from split-resistant cross-linked polyolefin with a factory-applied thermoplastic adhesive sealant on the interior, it delivers a reliable environmental seal once installed. Each sleeve measures 48 inches in length and ships in cases of 20. The adhesive sealant softens during the heating process, bonds to underlying surfaces, and fills small voids to create a watertight barrier. The MDT series is flame-retardant and offers greater flexibility than heavy-wall HDT sleeves, making it well suited for applications where cable movement or vibration is a factor.
This cable sleeve is intended for use in industrial, commercial, and utility electrical installations where cables, bus bars, or splices require durable environmental and mechanical protection. Typical applications include protecting wire harnesses, cable joints, and terminations exposed to moisture, abrasion, or chemical contact. The unprinted 48-inch length allows field technicians to cut sleeves to the required length on site, reducing waste and accommodating a range of conductor sizes. The MDT sleeve is appropriate for both indoor and outdoor installations where a medium-wall construction is sufficient.
Designed as an OEM-style medium-wall heat-shrink sleeve for electrical cable protection applications. Select the sleeve size based on the expanded inside diameter required for the conductor or splice being covered.
Installation is performed by licensed electricians or qualified electrical technicians in accordance with applicable NEC requirements. De-energize and lock out all circuits before applying the sleeve to cables or splices. Use a heat gun or other approved uniform heat source to shrink the sleeve — avoid open flame, which can cause uneven shrinkage or material damage. Allow the sleeve to cool fully before restoring power or handling.
