The 3M 7000120884 is a Scotch-Brite hook-and-loop coating removal disc designed for aggressive surface preparation on metal. The disc uses extra coarse (XCS) silicon carbide mineral embedded in an open, non-woven web construction. This combination removes paint, rust, and welding scale without gouging or undercutting the base material. The open web runs cool during operation and resists loading, which extends disc life during multi-step finishing work. At 7 inches in diameter, it fits standard hook-and-loop angle grinders and disc tools used in metal fabrication and finishing shops.
This disc is suited for coating removal and surface prep on metal workpieces including welded assemblies, fabricated steel, and painted or primed surfaces. It cleans welding discoloration, seam scale, and light rust while preserving the geometry of the base material. The hook-and-loop attachment system allows fast changeover between grits during multi-step processes, making it practical for production and repair environments. Typical users include welders, metal fabricators, industrial maintenance technicians, and body shop technicians.
Designed for use with 7-inch hook-and-loop angle grinders and disc tools used in metal surface preparation and coating removal applications.
Installation and disc changes should be performed with the grinder unplugged or the power source isolated. Confirm the tool arbor and backing pad are rated for hook-and-loop discs at the intended operating RPM before mounting. Eye protection, gloves, and appropriate respiratory protection should be worn when removing coatings or working with abrasive discs. Follow all applicable shop safety procedures and tool manufacturer guidelines for disc mounting and speed ratings.
