The 3M 7000120766 Scotch-Brite Surface Conditioning Film Backed Belt is a non-woven abrasive belt designed for cleaning, finishing, blending, and deburring metal and other surfaces. Built on a stretch-resistant nylon film backing, the belt maintains consistent contact pressure against workpiece surfaces and performs reliably on stroke sanders and platen-style equipment where reduced back-of-belt friction is required. Aluminum oxide mineral bonded with resin provides durable cutting action throughout the belt's service life. The open nylon fiber construction allows swarf and debris to escape the cutting zone, reducing loading and extending usable life.
This belt is suited for fabrication shops, metal finishing operations, and maintenance environments where a single belt needs to handle multiple surface prep tasks. Typical applications include weld blending, scale removal, surface conditioning before coating or inspection, and light deburring on ferrous and non-ferrous workpieces. The film backing performs well in stroke sander setups and on flat platen arrangements where conventional cloth-backed belts may generate excessive friction or stretch under tension.
Designed as a replacement-style non-woven abrasive belt for stroke sanders and platen-equipped belt finishing machines that accept a 132-inch by 3-inch belt configuration.
Installation should be performed by a qualified metalworking or maintenance technician familiar with abrasive belt equipment. Power down and lock out the machine before changing belts. Verify belt tracking and tension according to the machine manufacturer's guidelines before resuming operation. Inspect the belt for tears or separation at the splice before each use, and do not exceed the rated operating speed of the equipment.
