The 3M 7000120688 is a Scotch-Brite surface conditioning belt designed for detail finishing work on metal surfaces. Built with a nonwoven open web construction and aluminum oxide (AO) abrasive bonded with resin onto a scrim backing, this belt handles blending, deburring, contour finishing, and brushed-finish work in demanding shop and fabrication environments. The open web structure reduces loading and heat buildup, allowing extended run times without sacrificing consistent surface results. Metalworkers, fabricators, and finishing technicians are the primary users.
This belt is suited for flat finishing, edge deburring, stainless steel finishing, and setting straight-line brushed finishes across a range of metal types. Its conformable construction allows the abrasive to maintain contact with complex and irregular part geometries, making it effective for robotic processing lines as well as hand-operated belt finishing machines. Typical applications include removing grind lines, mill marks, and surface imperfections in both production and detail finishing scenarios.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-fit belt for standard belt finishing machines accepting 1 inch by 18 inch abrasive belts.
Installation is performed by metalworking and finishing technicians on compatible belt finishing or file-belt machines. Power down and lock out the machine before mounting or removing the belt. Ensure belt tracking is adjusted per machine manufacturer guidelines before resuming operation. Inspect the belt for tears or separation before each use and replace if structural integrity is compromised.
