The 3M 7000118456 is a coated abrasive belt designed for aggressive stock removal and surface conditioning in metalworking, fabrication, and finishing applications. Built on a heavyweight YF-weight polyester cloth backing, this 50-grit belt uses ceramic aluminum oxide as its abrasive material and features a closed-coat density for consistent, uniform cutting action across the full belt surface. At 2 inches wide and 72 inches long, it fits standard belt grinders and power file sanders common in metalworking shops and fabrication environments. The coarse grade makes it well-suited for fast material removal, weld blending, and deburring on ferrous and non-ferrous metals.
This belt is part of the 3M 777F series, engineered for both wet and dry operation. It is typically used in industrial and trade settings including metal fabrication shops, welding operations, tool and die work, and maintenance repair. The ceramic aluminum oxide grain is self-sharpening, which extends belt life compared to conventional aluminum oxide belts during high-pressure grinding tasks. Licensed tradespeople and fabricators working on structural steel, pipe, and plate will find the 50-grit cut rate appropriate for initial shaping and weld seam removal before progressing to finer grits.
Designed to fit standard 2-inch by 72-inch belt grinders and power file machines used in metal fabrication and industrial maintenance applications.
Install only on belt grinders or power file sanders rated for the 2-inch by 72-inch belt size. Ensure the machine is fully powered down and the tension release is engaged before mounting or removing the belt. Confirm belt tracking alignment before resuming operation to prevent edge wear or belt failure. When running wet, verify that the machine is rated for wet use and that drainage is adequate to prevent slipping hazards.
