The 3M 7000059391 is an adhesive-backed, flexible intumescent strip from the E-FIS series, designed for passive fire protection applications in commercial and residential construction. When exposed to heat, the intumescent material expands to seal gaps around doors, windows, and service penetrations, helping to slow the spread of smoke and fire through rated assemblies. The strip measures 0.0625 inches thick by 0.5 inches wide and ships in a 50-foot roll (600 inches), providing generous coverage per roll. Its pressure-sensitive adhesive backing allows direct application to wood, steel, or composite door frames without mechanical fasteners. Fire protection contractors, general contractors, and door hardware specialists are the primary installers.
The 3M E-FIS intumescent strip is suited for installation in fire-rated door assemblies, curtain wall systems, and construction joint applications where a compressible, heat-activated seal is required. The flexible format allows it to conform to irregular or curved surfaces, making it adaptable across a range of framing configurations. It is used in both new construction and retrofit fire-stopping projects. The black color allows it to blend with common door frame finishes. This strip is installed along the door stop or within frame rebates to provide a continuous intumescent barrier around the door perimeter.
Designed as an OEM-style firestopping solution for use in fire-rated door, window, and construction joint assemblies where an adhesive-backed intumescent seal strip is specified.
Installation is typically performed by fire protection contractors or door hardware specialists in compliance with applicable building codes and the requirements of the rated assembly listing. The bonding surface should be clean, dry, and free of dust or oils before applying the adhesive-backed strip. Peel the liner and press firmly along the full length of the frame rebate or door stop to ensure full adhesive contact. Verify that the installed strip does not impair door operation or exceed the clearance tolerances specified in the assembly rating.
