The 3M 7000051871 is a static resistant petroleum sorbent pad engineered for safe cleanup of highly flammable petroleum-based liquids. The pad is oleophilic, meaning it absorbs hydrocarbon-based liquids, and hydrophobic, meaning it repels water-based liquids. A specialized anti-static treatment prevents static charge buildup, making these pads suitable for use in low-humidity environments (below 20% relative humidity) and in freezing temperatures where static arcing is a real hazard. Each pad absorbs up to twice the volume of flammable liquid by weight compared to standard melt-blown static resistant sorbents, reducing total sorbent usage and cleanup time. Each case contains 50 pads and handles up to 75 gallons of absorbed liquid.
These pads are intended for industrial and commercial spill response involving petroleum-based and flammable hydrocarbon liquids on land or on water. Typical applications include fueling operations, tank farms, refineries, pipeline maintenance, and any environment where static discharge poses an ignition risk during liquid spill cleanup. The hydrophobic construction also makes them effective for surface-water petroleum recovery where separation from water is required.
Designed for use with petroleum-based and hydrocarbon flammable liquids in industrial, commercial, and environmental spill response applications. Suitable for use on land and on water surfaces.
Deployment should be performed by personnel trained in hazardous materials spill response following applicable facility safety protocols and local regulatory requirements. Before deploying sorbent pads near ignition sources, confirm the area is free of open flames and that ventilation is adequate for the flammable liquid involved. Do not use these pads as a sole fire suppression measure. Spent sorbent pads containing flammable or hazardous liquids must be disposed of in accordance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations governing hazardous waste.
