The 3M 7000049588 is a general purpose blue polyester tape designed for high-temperature masking and splicing applications. It features a clean-removing silicone adhesive and a tough, non-slivering polyester backing rated at 3.4 mil (0.09 millimeters) thick. The combination of a dimensionally stable polyester film and a high-temperature silicone adhesive makes this tape suitable for use in powder coat paint masking processes where heat resistance and clean removal are required. HVAC, industrial maintenance, and finishing trade professionals commonly use this tape during coating and surface preparation work.
This tape is used in applications where standard acrylic or rubber adhesive tapes would fail under elevated temperatures. Powder coat masking is the primary use case, where the tape must survive oven cure cycles and then remove cleanly without adhesive residue. It is also used for splicing silicone-treated release liners and similar low-surface-energy materials where conventional adhesives do not bond reliably. The 12-inch width and 72-yard length make it well suited for wider masking runs or roll-to-roll splicing tasks in a production or field finishing environment.
Designed for powder coat paint masking and splicing of silicone-treated materials in industrial and finishing applications.
Application is typically performed by finishing technicians, industrial painters, or maintenance trades. Surfaces should be clean and dry before tape is applied to ensure full adhesive contact. When used for powder coat masking, verify that the cure temperature of the process does not exceed the rated thermal limits of the tape before oven entry. Remove the tape promptly after the part cools to assist clean removal.
