The 3M 7000047044 is a 6-inch silicon carbide HD unitized wheel from the Standard Abrasives 500 Series. Designed with a soft, conformable density, it is built for light-pressure blending, finishing, and polishing on flat or contoured surfaces. The open non-woven web resists loading, extending service life, and the nylon strands will not melt or smear under heat, which helps prevent unwanted marks on finished surfaces. This wheel attaches to a compatible tool via a unitized wheel mandrel, sold separately. Metal fabricators, aerospace technicians, and finishing shop operators are the typical users.
This wheel is well suited for ferrous and non-ferrous metals, including exotic alloys and titanium, as well as composite materials. It performs in applications where close tolerances demand a controlled, consistent cut. Common scenarios include surface prep, light deburring, and fine finishing on both flat and contoured workpieces. The wheel runs clockwise and counterclockwise, giving operators added flexibility when mounting it to a range of tools and machines. It cuts faster than Standard Abrasives Buff and Blend non-woven products, though with somewhat less flexibility than those softer constructions.
Designed for use with a unitized wheel mandrel (sold separately) on right-angle grinders, die grinders, and bench-mounted finishing tools that accept 6-inch center-hole unitized wheels.
Installation should be performed by a qualified operator familiar with abrasive wheel safety practices. Always power down and disconnect the tool before mounting or removing the wheel. Verify that the tool spindle speed does not exceed the maximum rated RPM of the wheel before operation. Appropriate personal protective equipment, including eye and face protection, must be worn during use.
