The 3M 7000046033 is a Scotch-Brite hook-and-loop coating removal disc designed for stripping paint, rust, and welding scale from metal surfaces. The disc uses extra coarse (XCS) silicon carbide mineral bonded into a conformable, non-woven web that cuts aggressively without gouging or undercutting the base material. At 5 inches in diameter, it mounts quickly to any compatible hook-and-loop backup pad, making it a practical choice for fabricators, welders, maintenance technicians, and metalworking trades who need fast coating removal during surface prep or weld finishing workflows.
This disc is suited for use on hard metal surfaces including steel and welded assemblies where coating removal, scale cleaning, and seam blending are required. The open-web construction runs cool and resists loading, extending disc life during prolonged operation. It is well-suited for multi-step finishing processes where rapid disc changeover between grits or disc types is needed. Typical applications include pre-weld and post-weld surface preparation, rust and paint stripping, and light blending on fabricated metal components.
Designed for use with 5-inch hook-and-loop backup pads compatible with right-angle grinders and random orbital tools used in metal surface preparation and finishing applications.
Installation and disc changes should be performed with the grinder powered off and unplugged or the air supply disconnected. Verify the backup pad is rated for the tool RPM before mounting the disc. Inspect the hook-and-loop interface before each use to confirm secure attachment. Follow applicable workplace safety standards and wear appropriate PPE including eye protection when operating abrasive discs.
